SciTech Academy Charter School is a public school in Minnesota, South Metro, offering a free, academically rigorous education to students in kindergarten through grade eight grade.
SciTech Charter School's mission is to provide its diverse student body the best possible education by focusing on Science and Technology through the fundamental academic disciplines that affirms academic achievement and that develops strong characters. Character Development:
SciTech is committed to developing strong character in its students. This goal is achieved through a Code of Conduct, a robust character education program and other educational activities designed to build community.
Key features of SciTech Charter School:
- Milestones: Milestones of achievement celebrations and recognize student accomplishment. Milestones are not competitive; students work to meet an educational standard by obtaining doing and producing a quality work. Examples include: a well-prepared science laboratory report demonstrating proper use of scientific investigation; an illustrated story with correct English language sentence structure and spelling; and a well written theme from history.
- Early introduction of World Language: Foreign language instruction in Somali Language and Culture is offered three days per week in kindergarten and increases to daily instruction for all other grades. As well as Arabic language. Students in grade 6-7 might switch from Arabic to Spanish in grade 6-8 and when entering in higher grades.
- Early introduction of Science: In early grades (K-3), science at SciTech is designed to make children explore and wonder about the world. In grades 4-7 the approach becomes more rigorous. Students start to ask quantitative questions and develop the ability to determine if they have enough information to answer them. Four major areas are covered: Exploring Technology, Engineering, life sciences, earth sciences, and More.
