● Maintain health records
● Plan, participate in and respond to crisis team needs
● Provide guidance for COVID-19, and other primary health needs

COVID-19 Guidelines:
SciTech Academy takes the health and safety of its students and staff seriously. Multiple COVID-19 strategies, including regular cleaning, reinforced hand washing, and other hygiene
practices, will continue to be used in buildings to reduce the risk of transmission. The school health office and administration will continue to monitor classroom, building, and district levels closely throughout the year.

Health Information
● If an individual feels sick, stay home.

● Individuals who are fever-free for 24 hours and/or have improved symptoms and feel
well enough to return to school may resume normal activities.
● Masks are not required but highly encouraged when returning to school following a positive COVID-19 case.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and MN Department of Health (MDH) have additional guidance and recommendations available on their websites. The parent/guardian or staff member is responsible for determining the best course of action and when the individual is well enough to
be in school. It is recommended that individuals who test positive for COVID-19 stay home and should isolate themselves from others for at least five (5) days from the onset of COVID-19 symptoms or a positive test, whichever comes first. However, that decision is up to the parent/guardian.

Immunizations
State Law (MS 121A.15) requires all students in public schools to be fully immunized or have a notarized statement exempting them from immunizations while enrolled in school. All students new to SciTech Academy must bring their immunization or exemption records to school upon enrollment. Vaccinations given on time throughout childhood are essential to help provide immunity to children before they are exposed to potentially life-threatening diseases.

Immunization records can be dropp off at school during the enrollment or annual update process, submitted direct from the child’s healthcare provided or emailed/faxed direct to the sch0ol:

Our student nurse is available through out school hours for any emergencies or accidents as well as to attend to students with communicable disease so as to ensure the safety of other children.

Illness Guidelines for School:

When should a child stay home from school? The following General Guidelines are intended to help with this decision. Keep the student home:

  • If he/she has had a temperature of 100 degrees or higher in the past 24 hours (without fever-reducing medication).
  • If he/she has vomited 2 or more times in the past 24 hours.
  • If he/she has diarrhea, an increased number of stools compared to normal, or has stools that are loose, and he/she needs to use the bathroom frequently.
  • If he/she has any rash for which the cause is unknown. Check with your doctor before sending them to school.
  • If he/she has symptoms (fatigue, cough, headache, etc.) that prevents him/her from participating in class.

Call the school daily to report the illness. If the student must take medication at school, annual written permission from a doctor and parent is required. Notify the school of any changes in your work, home, or cell phone numbers so the school can call you if your child becomes ill. Refer to the Specific Disease Exclusion for Schools document for condition specific information.
